This weeks primary goal for the distance squad was to refine race our race skill and to work together as a pack. Most of the athletes were instructed to go out together at a specific conservative pace and negative split after the first mile.   We call this the "PREDATOR RUN" which we represent a Wolf Pack moving together to hunt their prey.

Saturdays race was at Westlake High school.  The course was two miles on the grass and periodically a group of  hay bales where placed into the course. This is one of my favorite races to watch because of the unpredictability of the hay bales. We kicked off our season with the Highland Invitational at Sugar House Park. This is one of my favorite races of the year. 1) Because we rerun this same race at the end of the season. This gives a good benchmark for fitness growth 2) The first two miles are the exact same as the state course which gives us good experience for state. 3) It allows younger athletes to get experience on the state course before they actually run it when they are older.

- Silverwolves Jump Team shines in under class men's meet this Tuesday hosted by Lone Peak High in Highland, Utah.

 Riverton sophomore, Emily Belnap stole the show with a dual Personal Record performance in the girls High Jump and Long Jump events, easily clearing 4' 10" in the High Jump competition claiming 10 first place points for her efforts.

Another outstanding High Jump performance at the Davis Invite from fifth seated Dalton Mc Clees in the elite Invited sector, as Dalton confirmed his ability to be a real contender for the school high jump record which stands at 6’ 5” after RHS 18 years of competition. As the 2017 track & field season rapidly comes to a close we have finally sorted out the top Jump Team athletes in their respective events that will give what ever it takes to be 

competitive and bring home those valuable point totals in the State Competition at BYU on May 19 & 20.

he Taylorsville Invitational was a success for the RHS Track & Field team yesterday.

 - First off congratulations to the Varsity Boys team for posting 4 point win over Herriman and Olympus

The Silverwolves Jump Team used the Cougar Relays Invitational as educational experience as most of the athletes that competed was their first time in competition. The Varsity Girls High Jump Team has first timers Audrey Johnson and Emily Belnap scoring meet points with their six and seventh place finishes respectively, both recording a height of 4’ 4” in their first ever competition.

In a rare display of good will, the weather gods of track & field bestowed warm temperatures, sunshine, and a gentle breeze upon the small group of athletes competing at the Cougar Relays, making for an enjoyable day and solid performances.

The Girls Distance Medley Relay bested the old school record (13:21.69), finishing in second place with a new school record of 13:10.74.  The relay team members were Kara Johansen (1200M), Haylee Mather (400M), Katie Christopherson (800M), and Samantha Jacobson...
